THE LATEST NEWS ON SATELLITE TELEVISION
from Andy Morgan of Nebula Entertainment
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TV69? Yes or No?
Recent Media reports have suggested that the proposed European Adult
channel originating from Denmark is about to start broadcasting on
the Astra satellite.
One UK newspaper has stated that satellite viewers would be able to
tune in and watch the channel,as it will be transmitting for a short
period in the clear. ( Unscrambled! )
The owners of Astra said the story was 'Rubbish'.
Comment: Damn it!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
VH1 may be here at last!
One of the promised channels of the Sky Multi-channels package maybe
starting in September.
The Independent Television Commision has awarded a satellite licence
to Viacom, the operator of the channel.
The channel will show videos from the likes of Tina Turner,Elton John
and Status Quo.
Comment: Music lovers around my age ( Not tellin'! ) and older may
appreciate this, after MTV's constant plug of Rave and Rap.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sega downloading system awaits!
Sega Europe is waiting to see how successful the American trials of its
games-on-demand ( GOD ) prove before committing itself to a European
satellite-delivered service. The earliest the channel will launch is now
put at early to mid 1995.
Comment: Hopefully by the time all this comes about, the Atari Jaguar will
have pushed the Sega machines off the shelves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
RTL5 scrambles!
After a shortish period transmitting in the clear,RTL5 has scrambled. To
us viewers in the UK this is bad news. After just getting used to watching
McGyver and the old series of Happy Days, this happens.Apperently they are
using the same scrambling system as RTL4.Luxcrypt.
I assume that by buying a RTL4 pirate decoder, you SHOULD be able to watch
RTL5.But I must stress, check this with a shop before you buy!
The price for the RTL4 Decoder is usually around £79.
For those of you wishing to know what the 'big-deal' is about the above
channels, well, currently most of the programmes are English. That is MADE
in England or America, and spoken as such. The poor Dutch audience for
which these channels are meant for, have to read the subtitles.Unless of
course they understand English. ( Which they probably do! )
Current RTL4 Decoders have been operating now for over 4 years. This means
that instead of constantly paying Sky every month for English programmes,
you can have a cheaper alternative!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
More news next month, including an article on illegal Pirate cards.
